Those who read this blog with some degree of frequency know we're on a perpetual hunt for decent, cheap sparkling wine. This was five bucks at Trader Joe's and difficult to pass up.
A little bit of lime and slate on the nose.
Rather sweet – if you're not a fan of sparklers because they're too dry, but don't quite want a dessert wine, this may work for you. If you know sparklers and like them dry but want a mildly sweet wine to pair with dessert, this wouldn't be bad either. It's mostly oranges, some orange blossom, and just a bit of pear.
Alright – it's sweet and one dimensional, but there's also nothing “bad” here, nothing funky or unpleasant, which for a $5 sparkler is a gigantic success. It's an easy quaff – perfect for a picnic, with spicy faire, or with a simple dessert
Wine: 5.5
Value: This depends on your perception of my review, if a bit of sugar in a sparkler peeks your interest, I'd say go for it.
I found your hilarious (and informative) blog after trying the Albero for the first time last night. I am an avowed bubbly worshipper and usually stick to Prosecco for cheap and consistently good fun but the Albero is a very enjoyable bit of plonk. Thanks for sharing your experiences!
ReplyDeleteWHere can I buy Albero wine? I live in the US.
ReplyDeleteI believe this is a Trader Joe's exclusive.
ReplyDeleteHow is the Brut??
ReplyDeleteIf there's a Brut, I haven't seen it. I don't shop at Trader Joe's all that often, but next time I'm there I'll take a look.
ReplyDeleteCouldn't remember where I picked up the bottle of Albero organically grown white wine but I was pleasantly surprised. It is delightful and fun with just a hint of bubbles. I remembered it was inexpensive though not remembering the price--but $5!! Glad to find out from this blog that it is being sold at Trader Joe's.
ReplyDeleteALBERO also has a great line of wines from Spain.. ALBERO monastrell, nice red from the region of Jumilla. ALBERO tempranillo, great red from Valencia region, ALBERO cava, great organic cava. Very nice value wines from Spain.
ReplyDeleteI buy the Albero usually by the case at Traders; that all I buy any more. I think it is wonderful!
